SPN 3251: DPF Differential Pressure
What SPN 3251 Is
SPN 3251 is Aftertreatment 1 Diesel Particulate Filter Differential Pressure — pressure drop across the DPF. High delta P means restriction (soot, ash, collapsed substrate) or a sensor/tube problem that only looks like restriction.
Common FMI Combinations

Diagnostic Order
- Pull both delta-P tubes. They pack with soot and read high or jump around (FMI 2/10). Clean or replace the lines.
- Compare soot percent, delta P, and exhaust temps. High soot with low temps is a regen-enable problem (sensor, 7th injector / HC doser, short trips).
- Do not force regen into a melted or oil-soaked DPF. If oil consumption is high, find that first.
- After a successful regen, confirm 3251 inactive. If it returns immediately, the sensor or a real restriction remains.
